When Free Stops Working
Seth Godin has an interesting post today about how free stops getting attention:
The interaction you seek as a marketer often disappears when something is free. The fascinating thing is that it often doesn’t matter if you’re paying or being paid… it’s the transaction either way that changes the posture of the person you’re working with.
I have seen this time and again with startups (including one of my own). Free works for a while, but at some point people will either stop paying attention or treat it as an ancillary toy since they have no money involved.
Consider this as you are rolling out your next startup about how you plan to ask for money sooner rather than later and how that may change the conversation with your customers.
