#DefragCon 2013 Notes: The Sands of Time: How Cloud is Changing the Role of the CIO — Rod Smith, IBM
The Sands of Time: How Cloud is Changing the Role of the CIO – Rod Smith, IBM
- LoBs want apps “built and deployed in less than 6 days”
- Looking for business value first, IT integration second
- This means working closer with CMOs, CHROs, etc
- IT using open source, “born on the web” technologies to deliver quickly
- This meets the LoB’s neds, but not IT’s architecture, integration, security, compliance, business controls
- IT beginning to factor in cloud solutions to meet LoB opportunistic business needs
- Enables ROI transparency
- Using cloud resources enable rapid exploration before IT integration, allowing the conversation to happen earlier
- They liked how Heroku’s business model brings the discussion to a business level dialog, rather than IT
- They are using the open cloud architecture to select the vendors desired, as well as location, to build their fabric
- CloudFoundry, OpenStack, etc.
- API-centered view for building solutions
- BlueMix PaaS demo – integrated DevOps with browser and Eclipse-based tools
